AI #3 Capsule

AI stands for anti-inflammation or auto-immune and number 3 means it contains three herbs: Mucuna birdwoodiana Caulis, Sargantodoxacuneata Caulis , and Oaederlae scandens （Paederiae Caulis ).

The main ingredient of the AI #3 Capsule is a group of various plant glycosides extracted from these herbs.  In China these botanical glycosides have been well studied and clinically utilized as anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory substances. They were diminutively called “herbal steroid”. Their pharmalogical activity is produced by a variety of components such as terpene lactone, alkaloids, and triterpenoids…etc., which have the selective autoimmune suppression and immune regulatory effects and at the same time many toxic components had been identified and removed. Pharmacological studies found that they have anti-inflammatory, autoimmune-suppression, immunomodulatory, and anti-tumor effects. The mechanism is that the glycosides can block the production of inflammation-inducing substances, such as 5-hydroxytryptamine, histamine, prostaglandin E2, improve capillary permeability, thus inhibiting swelling (exudation), chronic cell over growing (hyperplasia) of inflammation; It can also inhibit the immune response of the body from various ways, such as inhibiting the production of interleukin-2 and its receptor, interfering with the life cycle of lymphocytes, inducing apoptosis of activated lymphocytes, inhibiting the activity of nuclear factor κB, etc.

Clinically the glycosides have achieved remarkable therapeutic effect of rheumatoid arthritis. In recent years, with more clinical research, its application scope has been expanded.In China they have now been used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, primary glomerular nephropathy, nephrotic syndrome, purpura, lupus nephritis, renal proteinuria, lupus erythematosus, subacute and chronic active hepatitis, allergic skin vasculitis, dermatitis and eczema, as well as psoriatic arthritis, leprosy reaction, Bechet syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, recurrent oral sores, ankylosing spondylitis and so on. It has been commonly used in the treatment of non-bacterial inflammation and immune disorders, the efficacy is similar of corticosteroids, but there are no adverse reactions of steroids.
